Frequently Asked Questions

What can a Mental Performance Consultant do for me?

What is a Mental Performance Consultant (MPC)?

A mental performance consultant is someone who is educated and trained in field of sport psychology’s various methods, history, and research.

They are different from a sport psychologist in the way that they are NOT a licensed therapist or have the credentials to be one along with the education background of SP.

Though many do have at least a Master’s degree or even a Ph.D. in the field of sport psychology with a certification from the Association for Applied Sport Psychology (AASP) called a Certified Mental Performance Consultant (CMPC).

How many sessions will I need?

This question is unique to each client/team.

Some clients/teams will need more sessions than others depending on what we are working on.

In the Initial Consultation we will discuss the frequency and duration, along with cost of the services.

As each client/team is unique and each program is personalized and designed for that client/team, cost of services will vary from client to team.

For more information please contact us and we would be happy to answer any questions you may have.

What is the difference between a MPC and a therapist?

Both MPCs and therapists take the time to learn about a client’s past, what makes them unique, and the underlying areas of need.

What MPCs do differently, is they work with the client to help them become aware of past successes and failures to understand where their baseline is for their mind and body to work together to achieve success.

They then work together to develop mental skills to bring the client back to baseline or in most cases excel past baseline to create opportunities to achieve their potential.

What is the process of working with a Mental Performance Consultant?

Each athlete/team/performer is unique, thus the process of working with a mental performance consultant typically begins with an assessment session.

During this time, the mental performance consultant will determine your performance goals.

Based on the information obtained from that session, the mental performance consultant will develop a rough action plan to discuss with you.

They will then recommend various options to help you decide what approach might work best to meet your achievement goals and timeline.

What are Mental Skills & Tools?:

Mental skills and tools are skills that we develop throughout our lives and often use to enhance our abilities to succeed in the present and the future.

These skills are backed by hundreds of hours of research, just like medicine, to make sure they are ethically sound as well as effective in our client’s lives.

Skills can be developed to provide attention to areas such as focus, motivation, confidence, resilience, positive self-talk, team cohesion, leadership, anxiety, etc.
